California is an amazing place to be a climber! The rugged Sierra Nevada, Traverse, and the Peninsular Ranges, along with the diverse weather around the state, allows for year-round access to world-class rock and ice. In the north, Yosemite Valley, Tuolumne Meadows, and the High Sierra provide endless crack systems and granite faces. There are many well-established routes with the possibility of first ascents still available. In the south lies Joshua Tree, and being a high desert, it provides fantastic winter rock climbing. The high altitude of the Sierra Nevada allows for alpine ice routes to form in spring and fall while water ice is available throughout winter.
